In the 6 years since the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2018 decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc., and in particular the last twelve months, the number of states on the audit warpath actively focusing on the print industry – and on remote sellers at large – has exploded.  The Wayfair decision allowed states to impose compliance obligations on companies even where they have no physical presence in the state, so long as they meet certain other economic criteria.  Now, every state that imposes a sales tax has implemented laws and regulations to capture e-commerce and remote sales, impacting businesses with multistate operations.

During this session we will discuss:
•    Other types of taxes that printers will be at risk for as a result of the multistate reach, such as gross receipts taxes and income taxes
•    The nexus standards that apply to each tax type
•    Protections are out there for multistate businesses
•    What printers can do proactively to be prepared.
